2024 Competition Information

What is Envirothon?

Envirothon is the largest outdoor environmental science competition in the United States and Canada for high school students. Students compete in teams of five to demonstrate their knowledge in Soils, Forestry, Aquatics, Wildlife, and a current issue topic. This year’s current issue topic is Renewable Energy for a Sustainable Future.

How does Envirothon work?

There are three levels of Envirothon competition: Regional, State, and National Competition. All of the 2024 Competitions are planned to be held in-person. The Washington State Envirothon Committee will be keeping a close eye on statewide COVID safety protocols and are prepared to accommodate a virtual competition if needed to ensure the health and safety of all involved.

Why participate in Envirothon?

Students who participate in Envirothon are empowered to educate others, take action in their local communities, pursue higher academic study in environmental disciplines, and work toward environmental and conservation careers. The fun and competitive spirit of Envirothon motivates teams to learn about real-world environmental and climate change solutions. As our planet continues to experience the impacts of climate change, sustainable natural resources and land management of our soil, water, air, and land are crucial. Students learn about these sustainable practices and about environmental and conservation careers that work with their community to provide local solutions and strategies to address these challenges.

Teams gain public speaking, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills preparing and working together during the competition. Participating students have the opportunity to network with professionals in the field and spend time outdoors exploring. Envirothon also looks great on resumes and college applications.
